$95.
This includes a session via Zoom Telehealth from the comfort of your armchair.
It also includes a private appointment at the clinic where we examine and measure your teeth and bite.
It is at this point that you may choose to have a custom-made mouthguard fabricated. You are under no obligation to proceed.
Yes. No matter how few teeth you may have, or what restorations you have – we will design a bespoke mouthguard that you will find comfortable. We can work over your existing crowns, bridges, veneers, implants, upper full or partial dentures and lower partial dentures.
Yes. In the unlikely event that you are uncomfortable with a certain style of splint after 90 days we will either:
Construct a new splint of a different design at no charge and allow you another 90 days to accommodate to the new style.
Or
Reimburse all out of pocket* costs paid to Snoreology clinic less a $99 processing fee.
Thus effectively, the small financial risk to ‘trial’ a dentist designed custom-made definitive mandibular advancement splint / snoring sleep apnoea mouthguard is $99.
*Note we cannot refund monies paid by private health insurance.
Yes. Private Dental Extras will give you rebates. Ask us for item numbers so you can find out how much you will get back from your fund.
Yes and No.
No referral is required to attend an initial consultation to assess your suitability for a mouthguard. However, the Australian Dental Association mandates that all dentist made mouthguards are fitted only after the referral of a medical practitioner. So you will need to have a referral prior to your ‘fitting’ appointment.

Depending on the severity of your snoring and apnoea, how comfortable your jaws are with protrusion and thus the starting position, your mouthguard may give you benefits from the first night you wear it.
No problem. Your mouthguard will be designed to ensure you can nose or mouth breathe.
No, it will never get stuck. Just as footballers put mouthguards in and out, and people click in and out invisible braces, your mouthguard cannot get stuck.
No. Your snoring and sleep apnoea mouthguard is customised to fit snuggly on top of any fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges or implants. In fact, it actually protects your teeth and dental restorations from you grinding them and damaging them at night... Bonus!
The snoring / sleep apnoea mouthguard will replace the splint you currently wear and protect your teeth and jaws from clenching and grinding whilst also treating your snoring and sleep apnoea and the same time. Bonus!
No problem.
Every mouthguard is made from scratch and can be custom made to your dentures. We can work over upper full dentures and partial lower dentures. If you would prefer to sleep without your partial dentures, and there are enough remaining teeth to hold, we can make it without involving the partial dentures and working on your remaining natural teeth.
Please note, if you wear a full lower denture, the mouthguard cannot work for you unless the lower denture is retained by implants.
No.
While you are actively changing the position of your teeth every day with orthodontics, a mouthguard cannot work for you. Once your orthodontic treatment is complete and you are wearing a retainer, a custom-made snoring and sleep apnoea mouthguard can serve the dual purpose of treating your snoring or sleep apnoea whilst also retaining your teeth. Bonus!
Short term side effects may last a few weeks, like excess salivation or a dry mouth. Sometimes, the jaw joints can be a little stiff in the morning though this often resolves quickly.
Long term, some people experience a small change to the way their teeth bite together. For most people this is not annoying and does not affect your dental health. Most people find that their improved snoring, sleep and health far outweighs a small change to their bite.
This is very rare. If you know you have allergies, please alert us.
Worn only at night, it is a treatment, not a cure for your snoring and sleep apnoea. It only works when you wear it.
Many years… or until the dog eats it. Seriously… you have been warned.

‘Boil and bite’ guards are a piece of plastic that you soften in boiling water and then adapt slightly to your teeth by biting into it. Remarkably, manufacturers of these products refer to this ‘boil and bite’ technique as ‘custom-made’. This term erroneously leads people to believe that it will fit snug – which couldn’t be further from the truth.
These boil-and-bite one size fits all thermoplastic gadgets are bulky with limited retention and a significantly increased mouth opening is required to fit them in your mouth. A one-size-fits-all one may not hold your jaw forward enough to be therapeutically effective or it may move your jaw too far forward and cause pain and long-term damage to your teeth, gums and jaws. Simply the increase in size and poor retention have many people complain they are uncomfortable.
All mouthguards from Snoreology Clinic are significantly smaller than the boil-and-bite ones with increased retention. They are also ‘adjustable’. Titration (where you adjust in small increments to bring the lower jaw forward), in addition to the custom-made snug fit, is the key to reducing pressure on your teeth and jaw joints whilst slowly bringing your jaw forward to open your airway.
Cheaper anti-snoring mouthguards simply cannot compare in how they work or how comfortable they feel.
Finally, Snoreology is a clinic, not just a product. We provide support long term.
If you have tried a ‘boil and bite’ guard before and it did not work for you that does not mean you are not a candidate for a custom made one. To the contrary, a slim-line splint with excellent retention and less bulk may effectively treat your snoring and sleep apnoea concerns.
And you can try one with little financial risk with our money back satisfaction guarantee.
This is typically not a contraindication to treatment. Often a splint is the prescribed treatment for jaw issues. Thus you may find your mouthguard serves the dual purpose of treating your snoring and sleep apnoea at the same time as offering relief you’re your pre-existing TMJ or facial pain. Bonus!
If you have tried to lose weight but find it difficult, and you have sleep apnoea, using a sleep apnoea mouthguard may actually help with your weight loss.
Some people find that wearing a snoring and sleep apnoea mouthguard at night increases their energy levels during the day (due to the body receiving more oxygen at night). This helps you exercise more effectively and make better food choices (instead of craving high calorie foods to give you energy).
Yes:
• Reduce alcohol consumption – especially before going to bed.
• If your snoring is worse on your back – we can discuss ways to help you sleep on your side (without your partner needing to nudge you). This is called positional therapy.
• Raise the head of your bed – put some bricks under the head of your bed so you sleep on an angle. – This helps reduce gravity pulling down on your tongue.
• Quit smoking – even a reduction in smoking will help.
